But what you were not expecting is that some of the words used here mean something completely from what you have learned. So a really typical example would be when you get in into a taxi and start talking with the driver and he asks:&nbsp;<em><strong>&#8220;\u00bfEst\u00e1 ama\u00f1ado en Medell\u00edn?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/friendsofmedellin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/taxi.gif\" alt=\"This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is taxi.gif\" title=\"\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Bacano: &nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A fact, object or situation outstanding or pleasant. For example, when you are invited to your first paisa party and you go by yourself without your friends and the host is glad you are there:&nbsp;<em><strong>&#8220;\u00a1Qu\u00e9 bacano que viniste!&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/friendsofmedellin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/bacano.gif\" alt=\"This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is bacano.gif\" title=\"\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Berraco:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can refer like this to a person who is outstanding, practical, brave or also someone who is very upset, angry. For instance, you are going to see the <strong>Silleteros<\/strong> parade on la <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/getvico.com\/blog\/feria-de-las-flores-medellin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Feria de las Flores<\/a><\/strong> and you hear a paisa proudly saying:&nbsp;<em><strong>&#8220;\u00a1Estos silleteros s\u00ed son muy berracos!&#8221; <\/strong>&nbsp;<\/em>or it can on the other hand be used when someone is mad at you<em><strong>&nbsp;&#8220;Mi hermana est\u00e1 berraca porque no la llam\u00e9&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/friendsofmedellin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Silleteros-300x153.png\" alt=\"This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Silleteros-300x153.png\" title=\"\"><figcaption>Silleteros en la feria &#8211; Source: Colombia.co<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Charro: <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something funny, that makes you laugh. Example, you go to a cinema and watch a movie that is not from Adam Sandler:&nbsp;<strong><em>&#8220;Tan charra esa pel\u00edcula&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/friendsofmedellin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Charro-FOM.gif\" alt=\"This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Charro-FOM.gif\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ch\u00e9vere:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Defines something nice, beautiful, special. It can be people, objects or actions. Example: When your group of friends discovers that you are not boring or&nbsp;embittered:&nbsp;<em><strong>&#8220;\u00a1Qu\u00e9 ch\u00e9vere salir con vos!&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/friendsofmedellin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Nice-to-meet-you.gif\" alt=\"This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Nice-to-meet-you.gif\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Chimba:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its real meaning makes an allusion to the vagina but it is usually used to refer to something extremely good. The word was originally an insult to gay people but the word remained on the daily vocabulary. For example, after a night of &#8220;guaros&#8221;, you say&nbsp;the best-known sentence in the world:&nbsp;<strong>-&#8220;No vuelvo a tomar&#8221; <\/strong>and they are then going to answer:<em><strong>-\u00a1Ja, o\u00edlo!&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Parce:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Possibly the most used word by the citizens of Medell\u00edn, it refers to someone. It can be a friend but also someone you don&#8217;t know. For example, at any time, any person, any place:&nbsp;<em>&#8220;<strong>Parce, \u00bfqu\u00e9 horas ten\u00e9s?&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/friendsofmedellin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Parcero.gif\" alt=\"This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Parcero.gif\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Parche<\/strong>:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Place of reunion or the action to hang out with friends.
